Terry Hershey Park Playground — Energy Corridor

Terry Hershey Park Playground is tucked inside the winding greenbelt of one of Houston’s most beloved bayou trails. Enter from Memorial Drive, and you’ll find a peaceful, tree-lined escape buzzing with cyclists (watch out for them, as they sometimes won't return the favor!), walkers, and kids on scooters. It’s the kind of park where you can spend the whole day—if you pack enough snacks and maybe a towel.
The playground itself is a little retro, with metal equipment showing some wear, but kids don’t seem to care. There’s a rocket-style climbing structure, sturdy swings, a classic slide, and a fairly lengthy "tunnel slide." Parents will appreciate the shaded gazebo nearby and a few benches scattered along the trail, though shade at the actual playground is limited. There's also a "take one, leave one" Little Library box just outside the playground that can occasionally provide a gem for the kids or any James Patterson/Tom Clancy fan in your life. (This is the Energy Corridor, after all, so there's plenty of "Dad Lit" on offer.)
But what makes this playground shine is its context—you're not just visiting a playset, you're stepping into a sprawling green landscape with trails, bridges, and a giant sundial that doubles as a teaching moment. Pack the stroller, bring the bikes, and don’t forget sunscreen. It’s one of those playgrounds that feels less like a destination and more like a launching pad for a whole day outside.
Vibe Check: Chill + Nature-y + Local favorite
Pro Tip: Bring bug spray—especially after a good rain!
Snack Alert: No concessions, but it’s close to an Randall's and Starbucks on Memorial
